Macon personal injury attorney handling auto accident, catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases.

What types of insurance are important in an auto wreck case? Hi, I’m Jarome Gautreaux, personal injury lawyer and founder at Gautreaux Law in Macon, Georgia. In this short video, I’m going to explain three types of insurance that you probably want to know about if you’re involved in an auto wreck case. Knowing about this insurance can save you thousands of dollars. Let’s jump right in.

First type of insurance you need to know about is liability insurance. That’s insurance that the other person who caused your wreck has to cover your injuries. Same thing you have if you’re in a wreck that you caused. Your liability insurance covers their injuries. That’s number one.

Number two, uninsured or underinsured, sometimes called UM coverage. This is important coverage because what if the person who hit you doesn’t have any insurance or doesn’t have enough liability insurance? Then it’s up to you and your uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage to provide the extra coverage that the person who hits you either didn’t have, or didn’t have enough of. That’s second.

Third type, MedPay coverage. Medical payments coverage is coverage that sort of like health insurance if you’re in a car wreck. It can pay for your medical bills when you’re injured in a car wreck. So it can be very important and helpful to you as you get medical treatment after an auto wreck. Keep in mind that UM coverage, it comes in two different flavors, added on and reduced. The added on is typically better because it adds onto on top of the liability coverage that’s available.

I hope this has helped you, this brief overview of insurance coverage that can be important in an auto wreck case. Thanks for watching.
